[periotherapist] your ideas about treatment plan
Ray,
It appears you have done your homework..well done. Now you need to get treated.
While all of the options have validity and will give some positive outcome, only one treatment will eliminate and/or decolonize the bacteria in the pocket and that is the treatment with the DEKA Ultraspeed CO2. The Millenium protocol (LANAP) doesn’t do it and with all due respect to those on this board who use the perioscope, that treatment does NOT eliminate or decolonize (any more than standard scaling and root planning) the bacteria swarming in the pocket either. Also neither of these treatments addresses the removal of the crest epithelium for a long enough period of time for the connective tissue to get a decent foothold. The Millenium protocol removes the crestal epithelium once, the perioscope treatment doesn’t address it at all, while the DEKA protocol calls for removal four times…allowing the healthy connective tissue to have a fighting chance.
Keep in mind that it is not the calculus in the pocket causing the problem, it’s the bacteria. Dr. Keyes proved more than once that you can get reattachment over calculus if get the bacteria out of the pocket. Seeing fine calculus with the periscope I’m sure is really cool and helps when doing SRP (scaling and root planning) but if you don’t provide a bacteria-free site or decrease the colonization of bacteria you won’t get healthy connective tissue to regrow. Once healthy connective tissue to regrow, bone will follow.
If you were my big brother..you would having the treatment with the DEKA Laser. I hesitated to respond with info about the DEKA Laser because I got slapped down by some who have never used the technology…but you need to know what works and for a price that you can afford. I can’t imagine scaling two teeth for one hour.by then all of the cementum could be gone..to what then does the fragile attachment apparatus reconnect???

Hi again,
I have developed 3 possible paths to better dental health.
To review I’m a 57 year old male with moderate to advanced periodontitis. I am concerned about losing any more teeth.
Office #1
Offers LANAP procedure, GENERAL DENTIST $2412.00
Office #2
Offers SRP plus Deka laser, GENERAL DENTIST $1383.00
Office #3
Offers SRP plus laser, GENERAL DENTIST $1860.00 this office has a perioscope available @ additional cost of $300-500.00 per Hr. RDH tells me she can work on 2 teeth per hour.
Thanking you in advance, Ray

With all due respect to Ms. King, her comments about LANAP are not accurate. LANAP removes diseased epithelial lining from the crestal gingiva and the entire wall of the periodontal defect and down to the depth of the defect. LANAP accomplished this without laying a surgical acces flap. That is something CO2 lasers including the DEKA have not been able to demostrate scientifically. LANAP creates a “closed system” with a fibrin clot at the conclusion of the LANAP appointment so repeated de-epithelializations (re-treatments) are not necessary.
